Australian Double For Stravinsky

9 Feb 2008

Cambridge Stud shuttle stallion Stravinsky scored two juvenile wins across the Tasman last week with smart fillies Dalayel (NZ) and Hips Don’t Lie (NZ).

Leading Rosehill trainer Tim Martin combined forces with Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum to win the two year-old fillies race over 1100 metres at Canterbury on Wednesday with talented filly Dalayel (NZ) (x Fire Lass by Woodman) .

Having her second start after finishing fourth at Rosehill on January 19, Dalayel (NZ) was ridden more patiently this time around and after settling behind the Graeme Rogerson trained Top Cuban (Anabaa) she overhauled that filly in the straight to win by a neck.

Dalayel (NZ) was Stravinsky’s second juvenile winner in the space of a week after the smart David Hayes trained filly, Hips Don’t Lie (NZ) made it three from three in the Listed Talindert Stakes at Flemington.

Dalayel (NZ) is the second foal of the Woodman (USA) mare Fire Lass, an unraced half-sister to Group One QTC Queensland Derby winner Camarena, the dam of last season’s Group One winning juvenile Camarilla.

Fire Lass has also left a yearling colt by Champion sire Zabeel.
