Black-Type Boost for Almanzor

Black-Type Boost for Almanzor2 Sep 2018

Almanzor received a black-type boost overnight, when his exciting sire Wootton Bassett registered Gr.3 success in the Longchamp Prix la Rochette (1400m) courtesy of two-year-old son, The Black Album.

The Black Album is Wootton Bassett’s third stakes-winning two-year-old and has now won three of five starts.

Considered one of the most exciting emerging sires in Europe, Wootton Bassett was a Champion Two-Year-Old son of Iffraaj and despite only receiving small books of mares initially, has defied the odds with his black-type pre-potency.

To date, Wootton Bassett has had the four crops of racing age and from a total of 82 runners has been distinguished with the three-time Gr.1 winning European Champion Almanzor, the Gr.1 placed dual stakes winner Wootton, a stakes-winning daughter in Do Re Mi Fa Sol, last night’s Gr.3 winning juvenile The Black Album, the Gr.1 performed Patascoy and three other stakes horses.

In the meantime, Almanzor has got off to a flying start to the breeding season, with quality mares already covered including a Power half-sister to the multiple Gr.1 galloper and now sire Turn Me Loose, a High Chaparral daughter of regally bred mare Joy’s Choice, a Zabeel half-sister to the stakes winner and producer Valpolicella, and a Volksraad half-sister to stakes winner Lady Le Fay.
