There was honour in defeat for the progressive three-year-old Brandenburg at Randwick this afternoon.
He rose to the biggest challenge of his fledgling career with a strong run for second in the Gr.2 Stan Fox Stakes.
The son of Cambridge Stud’s Burgundy was set a stiff task after settling near the back of the field on a track record setting pace.
The John Sargent-trained Brandenburg didn’t shirk his task and made up many lengths in the closing 800 metres.
Brandenburg is a son of the Galileo mare Wansesingyee and was bred by Hunterville identity Christopher Grace.
The dam is out of a half-sister to the Sargent-trained Listed McKell Cup winner Luvuleo.
