Top filly Maven Belle delivered a most appropriate result when she triumphed in our sponsored race at Pukekohe.

Last season’s G1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes winner showed her quality and determination in a driving finish in the G3 Cambridge Stud Almanzor Trophy to remain unbeaten this preparation.

Maven Belle jumped well to be prominent and answered every call from rider Opie Bosson in the straight.

She is a daughter of our late stallion Burgundy and was foaled at the Stud for her breeders, Te Akau's David Ellis and Karyn Fenton-Ellis and Mark and Julia Walker..

Maven Belle has now won six of her seven starts and should have an unblemished record after she was desperately unlucky when third in the G1 Sistema Stakes.

She was given a lengthy spell at the end of her two-year-old campaign and had returned to easily claim an age group event at Pukekohe earlier this month before landing the Almanzor Trophy.

“That was a great effort, she was second-up off a short turnaround and she’s all class,” trainer Mark Walker said.

“She had worked worse than plain, she was ordinary, but sometimes you have to put that behind you and I thought she looked very well in the parade ring. She’s got that will to win.”
