Burgundy extends lead on NZ 2nd Season Sire Table26 Jul 2018

Burgundy has made most of the running in the race to be New Zealand’s leading second season sire this year thanks in large part to the likes of group winners Dijon Bleu and Hard Merchandize. As the season draws to a close three-year-old filly Silhouettes did her part to keep Burgundy in front when circling widest of all to earn a tenacious win in the Equine Services Maiden at Phar Lap Raceway today. Silhouettes was bred by Karyn Mitchell who still shares in the ownership with Mrs F & R J McSheffrey and the estate of the late J V McSheffrey.

Burgundy currently sits atop the New Zealand second season sire list with over $500,000 in earnings and is followed by Cambridge Stud sire Power and Ocean Park. Silhouettes is one of 10 winners from just 23 runners for Burgundy in New Zealand this season that includes the aforementioned Dijon Bleu who will be crowned the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year thanks to a five win campaign that included the G2 Sir Tristram Fillies Classic.

Silhouettes was also part of a big day for the Cambridge Stud sires in Timaru as Tavistock produced maiden winner Mamma Sans and Highly Recommended sired a further two winners on the card.
