Burgundy takes eye at Karaka Stallion Expo

4 Aug 2014

Blueblood stallion Burgundy (Redoute's Choice ex Grand Echezeaux, by Zabeel) took at the eye at last Friday's Stallion Expo staged prior to New Zealand Bloodstock's Winter Mixed Sale.

Burgundy looked a picture of health when parading before a good-sized audience of breeders at the Karaka Sales Centre.  It's a venue which Burgundy is no stranger to having sold for $1.3m there at the 2010 Karaka Premier Sale; the bid from David Ellis seeing the impeccably-bred horse be the second-leading yearling sold in NZ in 2010.

Burgundy covered 92 mares in his intial year at Cambridge Stud, an excellent book by any standards for a newcomer stallion.

Since then Burgundy's sire, Redoute's Choice, has been crowned Australia's Champion Stallion for the 2013/2014 Season.  What's more, a son of Redoute's Choice - Snitzel, was a close second on the Australian General Sires' Premiership.

Burgundy is, of course, a half-brother himself to the five time Group One winner Darci Brahma.  The latter is doing a wonderful job at stud for The Oaks in Cambridge.

Burgundy's fee for 2014 has been set at $6,000 + gst.  A live foal guarantee (cash refund) applies and service fees for the entire Cambridge Stud stallion roster are not due for payment until 30 June 2015.
