The benefit of a race day outing has stood the Burgundy youngster La Romanee in good stead.

The two-year-old was green on debut, but did everything right at Riccarton today for a brave win.

He is a member of a small team Matamata trainer Daniel Miller has in the South Island and more than paid for his passage.

La Romanee was in front at the top of the straight and answered every call from rider Samantha Wynne to open his account.

The gelding is a half-brother to Won Won Too, a son of Tavistock who won the Listed Galilee Series Final.

They are out of the Casual Lies mare Celtic Dream and the family of Group One winners Domino, Westminster and Veloso.

La Romanee was bred by Heather & Lloyd Monehan and is raced by the Miller family.
