Burgundy’s boy too good

Sophisticardo left his Rating 75 rivals with no excuses at Awapuni where our homebred son of the late Burgundy gave them all a start and a beating.

The Mark Walker-trained four-year-old drew an awkward gate and rider Joe Kamaruddin eased to the back of the field and was still the tail ender 500 metres from home.

Sophisticardo picked up ground soon after and produced a withering finish wide out on the track to claim the thick end of the stake.

He has rarely disappointed throughout his career and now has three victories and six placings, including fourths in the Karaka Million 2YO and the Listed Uncle Remus Stakes, to his credit.

Sophisticardo is a son of the G3 Desert Gold Stakes winner Glamorous Girl and the daughter of Thorn Park continues to do a fine job at stud.

All seven of her foals to race have been successful and she recently foaled a colt by Embellish before visiting Sword of State.
