Brandenburg earned posthumous honours for Cambridge Stud’s late stallion Burgundy with an emphatic win in today’s G2 Hobartville Stakes at Rosehill.

Up against a field boasting five Group One winners and some of the best three-year-olds in the country, Brandenburg defied a wide run on speed to triumph in the 1400 metre feature.

Brandenburg’s win at long odds didn’t come as any surprise to trainer John Sargent.

"No, I have always rated him a very good colt," he said. "We looked after him in the spring and just took him down for the Carbine Club.

“He had to front up today against these serious horses and he did. It was very impressive.

"He's got a very good attitude and that's what makes the horse. He just eats and sleeps."

Brandenburg is out of the Galileo mare Wansesingyee and was bred by Christopher and Susanna Grace.
