Burgundy’s son strikes early22 Jun 2021

Burgundy Dancer came off a brief let-up at Pukekohe Park this afternoon to open his winning account at just his second appearance.

Trained by Chris Gibbs, the youngster had been unplaced in early May on debut and a subsequent trial placing had him in tip-top order and he duly added to his late stallion’s 2-year-old success stories this season.

Burgundy Dancer was bred by Sir Peter Vela’s Pencarrow Stud and is out of a half-sister to the G2 Travis Stakes winner Rasa Lila, also placed in the G1 Easter Handicap, and the G3 Lowland Stakes winner Posavina.

Former Cambridge Stud stallion Burgundy has been to the fore this term through his juvenile representatives, including Sophisticardo who was a winner before finishing a close fourth in the Karaka Million.

A promising daughter of Burgundy, who was a stakes-winning son of Redoute’s Choice, is Bellacontte who recently powered home for third in the Listed Castletown Stakes after previously placing at the first time of asking.
