Cambridge Stud Committed To Karaka Sales

30 Jun 2007

In a resounding endorsement of the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales Series and the New Zealand thoroughbred industry, Sir Patrick & Justine, Lady Hogan have pledged their commitment to offer Cambridge Stud's entire draft of yearlings at Karaka in 2008.

Cambridge Stud will offer more than 80 yearlings across the Premier, Select and Carnival Sales of the 2008 National Yearling Sales Series and will not be represented by a draft of yearlings at any sales in Australia.

Sir Patrick Hogan's decision comes after a sensational year for New Zealand horses both in the sales ring and on the racetrack, results which he says stamps New Zealand as the leading source of world class thoroughbreds.

"New Zealand has held itself up internationally this year in an incredible fashion, with seven Derby winners in Australia, Macau and Hong Kong, plus an impressive display by Vengeance of Rain in Dubai, all of them graduates of the Karaka sales ring, and two of those - Vengeance of Rain and Fiumicino - off Cambridge Stud's property. Following the outcome of the Karaka Sales Series earlier this year I have huge confidence in the Sale and with our industry profiling itself so impressively it is clear to me that Karaka is the place to sell next year."

Amongst Cambridge Stud's outstanding selection of yearlings on offer in January are 25 by New Zealand champion sire Zabeel, promising Karaka its largest crop of Zabeel progeny in recent years.

Amongst these are colts from Abbaye (Ahonoora), Better Succeed (Success Express), Dane Dancer (Danehill), Enhancer (Red Tempo), Fire Lass (Woodman), Golden Winds (Star Way), Myself (Haswan), La Quinta Gold (Encosta do Lago), Shot at the Title (Danehill) and Silk Slipper (Woodman), fillies out of Group 1 winning racemares Dantelah (Volksraad), Honor Babe (Honor Grades) and Smiling Like (Star Way), plus Diamond Habit (Green Desert), Forest Girl (Woodman), Foxy Blonde (Volksraad), La Voleur (Housebuster), Penny Arcade (Straussbrook), Stella's Pantry (Danewin) and Wyndham Special (Centaine).

Sir Patrick says after careful consideration he made the deliberate decision to offer all his yearlings by Zabeel in New Zealand. "Zabeel has been represented this season by some outstanding performers and I see great strength in sending the clear message to buyers that if you want to buy Zabeel progeny you must come to New Zealand."

"In my view there is only one way to ensure the New Zealand Yearling Sale has the best possible catalogue and that is by leading by example. Cambridge Stud has an outstanding draft of young horses to offer next year which will have huge appeal to a wide range of buyers and we are proud to be offering them all at Karaka."

In addition to its entries by Zabeel, Cambridge Stud's draft will include a Rock of Gibraltar filly out of blueblood mare Marquise, plus:
