Cambridge Stud stallions provide trifecta in Gr.1 NZ Oaks

20 Mar 2010

The Wellfield Stud New Zealand Oaks-Gr.1 finish at Trentham Gardens on Saturday saw Cambridge Stud stallions provide the first three runners home; namely Keep the Peace (by Keeper), November Rain (by Stravinsky) and Zarzuela (by Zabeel).

Trained by Shaune Ritchie at Cambridge, Keep the Peace (Keeper ex Peace of Mind, by Wild Rampage) has been a model of consistency this season and the Oaks win at Group One level was just reward.  The filly ran second to Katie Lee in the NZ 1000 Guineas-Gr.1 during the spring, and then gained her first Group Race success when taking out the WRC Desert Gold Stakes-Gr.3 on Wellington Cup Day.  Keep the Peace completed her Oaks preparation with a sound second to Posavina in the Lowland Stakes-Gr.3 earlier this month.

Keep the Peace becomes the fourth individual Group One winner for her sire, the others being Insouciant (NZ 1000 Guineas), Linky Dink (QTC T J Smith Classic) and Keepa Cruisin (Levin Classic).

Keeper is the sire of 14 individual black type winners.  In all he's had 150 individual winners spread across nine different nations.

Keeper stands alongside Zabeel, Lucky Unicorn and shuttler, Stravinsky, at Cambridge Stud.
