Almanzor’s sire Wootton Bassett was in the thick of the Classic action in France this week with multiple Group One placegetters.

His daughter Speak Of The Devil went closest to glory when she finished runner-up in the French 1000 Guineas.

At just her third start, the Fabrice Chappet-trained filly lunged late only to come up short by a nose.

Stablemate Mageva, also by Wootton Bassett, got home well for third money.

In the colt’s edition, the Henri-Alex Pantall-prepared The Summit continued his strong form when second in the French 2000 Guineas.

The son of Wootton Bassett had won the Gr.3 Prix de Fontainbleau at his previous appearance.

Those performances have propelled the Haras d’Etreham-based stallion to the top of the French three-year-old sires’ premiership.

In addition to the above horses Wootton Bassett's three-year-old crop includes the stakes winners Wooded, Helter Skelter and Wootton's Colt. That is an impressive haul for a relatively small crop of 72 foals that were conceived at a fee of €6,000.
