It was impossible not to be excited about the August arrival of Roaring Lion following the presentation given by Tweenhills Stud's David Redvers at Cambridge Stud yesterday.
Entertaining a selection of breeders and media personalities in the process, David explained how he came to purchase Roaring Lion as a yearling for the Principal of Qatar Racing, His Highness Sheikh Fahad.
“Hannah Wall, who has worked with me going around the sales for about 12 years now, said there was a horse at Taylor Made that she thought I would like. When I saw him, he just glided out of his box, glided up to us and glided away again and I knew I had to have him,” recalled David.
With the four Gr.1 wins that followed at age three, Redvers’ regard for Roaring Lion is unparalleled.
“He is my horse of a lifetime," he said.
“He is just the most exceptional racehorse I have had anything to do with. Every time he ran, he got stronger, he got faster and he got more streetwise. He is the best moving horse I have ever clapped my eyes on and I really can’t think of what type of mare wouldn’t suit him. I think he’s about to create a legacy for New Zealand and I’m pleased to be involved with this.”
