Tony and Calvin McEvoy unveiled a promising three-year-old at Terang where Almanzor’s son New Level was a winner at the first time of asking.

The Ballarat trainers had expected a bold showing from the colt over 1200 metres and they weren’t disappointed.

“He’s a nice horse this fellow and has always showed good talent, I think he is a metro grade horse,” Tony McEvoy said.

While New Level is expected to be at his best over a mile and further, he showed good pace out of the gates to sit in behind the pace.

Rider Declan Bates had the three-year-old into clear air 200 metres from home and he rounded off strongly to win by half a-length.

Raced by breeders Ron and Judy Wanless, New Level is out of the Zabeel mare Honeymoon and the next three dams Bridal Hill, Storm Hill and November Rain all stakes winners with the latter collecting three Group 1 titles.
