Beldarra kicked off a terrific day for the farm at Avondale where she turned her fortunes around in our colours over 1100 metres to set up a winning double.
The Hinchinbrook mare won for the third time in her career at the expense of our homebred and sold Sophisticardo, while our colours were carried to a further victory in the following event when Polygon broke her maiden.
Twice stakes-placed as a juvenile, Beldarra has often raced without luck and endured an interrupted run when unplaced at her previous outing when resuming at Taupo.
The Lance Noble-trained four-year-old settled in behind the leading pack at Avondale and was into the clear at the top of the straight before Sam Spratt brought her with a well-timed run to beat Sophisticardo, who came from last.
Beldarra was bred by the China Horse Club and we purchased her from Little Avondale Stud’s draft at Karaka for $115,000. She is out of the Sebring mare Inside Line, who is a half-sister to the Australian stakes winner Come Fly With Me.
Noble and Spratt also combined with Polygon, who sat three back on the fence before she was off the rail 400 metres from home and came with an irresistible finish at her third appearance.
By Highly Recommended, Polygon is a daughter of the Encosta De Lago mare Polyantha and her half-sister Pure Harmony won an edition of the G2 Moonee Valley Classic Oaks.
Polyantha foaled a filly by Hello Youmzain last month and will return to our shuttle stallion again this year.
