Double strike for Tavistock

Double strike for Tavistock31 Jul 2019

Leading stallion Tavistock has made a flying start to the new term with a winning double on the opening day of the new domestic season.

The promising Tavis Court completed a two-timer at Hawera for the Cambridge Stud resident after Classclown had struck earlier on the card.

Prepared by Anna Clement, Tavis Court is fashioning a tidy record with a brace of wins and three runner-up finishes from five outings.

The four-year-old is raced by his breeders the G & A Hill Trust and is the first foal of the Keeper mare Keep Her Free to race.

The dam is out of a half-sister to the Gr.1 Queensland Derby winner Court Ruler and the family of the Gr.1 Makfi Challenge Stakes winner I Do.

Meanwhile, Classclown was in a serious mood for trainer Fraser Auret to shed his maiden tag in style.

The lightly-tried six-year-old is proving he’s been worth waiting for with a deserved success at just his fourth appearance.

As a runner-up in both previous runs this preparation, he was strongly favoured and had no trouble carrying his supporters through.

Classclown is the first winner for the Sandtrap mare Hilily, whose pedigree most notably features multiple winner and sire Vite Cheval.
