Double strike in England

Double strike in England30 Sep 2021

We celebrated a notable overnight winning double at Chelmsford in England with a pair of 2-year-olds with close ties to the farm.

Abbado, a son of shuttle stallion Almanzor, was again successful while Hilary’s Boy, a horse we bred in England, also made it two victories on the bounce.

Trained by Sir Mark Prescott, Abbado was unplaced on debut in August but has since hit his straps by breaking his maiden at Chester and repeated the dose over 2000 metres at Chelmsford.

The youngster raced near the pace and, after hitting the front at the top of the straight, stayed on strongly under jockey Ryan Tate.

Abbado is raced by breeder Cheveley Park Stud and is a half-brother to the Listed Newbury Aphrodite Stakes winner and multiple Group 2 and 3 placegetter Cabaletta.

They are out of the former top staying mare Allegretto, a daughter of Galileo who was successful in the G1 Prix Royal Oak and also at Group 2 level on four occasions.

Hilary’s Boy is a colt by Lethal Force who opened his account at Thirsk before he made it two in a row with a dashing late finish over 1200 metres for trainer Les Eyre and jockey Cam Hardie.

He is the first foal of the winning Lawman mare Mitigate, who was purchased by the farm carrying Hilary’s Boy at the Tattersalls December Mares’ Sale for $100,000.

A half-sister to G3 Sovereign Stakes winner Kick On, Mitigate foaled a So You Think filly last month and will be served by Hello Youmzain. She also has a Dundeel yearling that will be a member of our draft at Karaka next year.
