Almanzor’s son Dynastic powered back into contention for next weekend’s G1 New Zealand Derby with a strong staying performance at Matamata.

Prepared by Mark Walker, he produced a fine performance to give weight and a beating on a heavy surface when trouncing his older rivals over 2000m.

Rider Opie Bosson settled Dynastic in fifth spot on the inner before they edged closer and were into the clear at the top of the straight.

The three-year-old then lengthened stride in fine style to gallop into the Derby picture with a performance that saw his odds cut from $41 to $18.

“He handled the wet ground well and he missed the Avondale Guineas after he banged a leg,” Walker said.

“That might have been a blessing the way that track played on the day and he had drawn the outside.”

The gelding was purchased by Te Akau chief David Ellis at Karaka out of the draft of co-breeder Windsor Park Stud for $360,000. He is a son of the Volksraad mare Meir and the family of the international Group 1 winners Dank, Eagle Mountain and Sulk.

We share in the ownership of Dynastic and he crowned a great day for the farm following the earlier successes of the undefeated two-year-olds Tokyo Tycoon and Zourion.
