The race day covers came off another promising member of Embellish’s first crop at Otaki where Flashlight made the perfect start to his career.

The three-year-old, who had finished second in a lead-up trial, belied his long odds with a determined home stretch finish to put away his rivals on debut over 1600 metres.

Raced by breeder Guy Lowry who trains the gelding with Leah Zydenbos, Flashlight lobbed in along in fourth spot before he was angled wide on the turn and let down strongly for rider Lily Sutherland.

Lowry has formed a good opinion of his charge and expects him to be even more of a force to be reckoned with as he steps up in distance.
