Whiskey Lies earned another gold star for bravery when the colt again showcased his tenacious nature at Ruakaka.

The son of our promising young stallion Embellish had been a game winner of his previous start on the track and the Kenny Rae and Krystal Williams-trained juvenile followed up in style over 1100 metres.

Whiskey Lies was quickly into stride to make the running, but was given no peace in front and was headed in the straight.

The two-year-old thereafter responded to every call from jockey Jasmine Fawcett to rally strongly and claim the thick end of the stake.

“He was a bit green at his last start and drifted away from the rail, he learned a lot and I thought he was my best ride for the day,” Fawcett said.

Whiskey Lies was bred by the Hawkins family’s Wentwood Grange and was a $12,000 purchase at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale.

His dam is the Darci Brahma mare Champagne Katie, who is from the family of former champion juvenile and two-time Group 1 winner Lycra.

Embellish has been represented by three winners and three stakes performers, including our homebred and raced pair of Luberon and Paragon, from just 10 runners.
