Emery Registers Another Tavistock Winner from Purnima14 Jun 2019

Prominent breeder/owner Bob Emery registered the second Tavistock winner this season from his Dubai Destination broodmare Purnima today.

Unraced herself, Purnima is the noted dam of Tavistock’s 6YO stakes-winning mare Tomelilla, who won the Listed Karaka Classic at Counties this season for the Baker/Forsman yard.

The mare and sire paired to advantage again today when Tomelilla’s brother Viktor Vegas staved off a late challenge in a 1200m contest at Awapuni.

Trained by Peter Lock and ridden by Johnathan Parkes, the five-year-old gelding has now won three races for his breeder/owner.

“He’s a lovely horse and that was a great win,” trainer Peter Lock told Cambridge Stud.

“I’m really happy for Bob Emery, who puts a lot of money into the game and deserves all the success he gets.”

Viktor Vegas is now likely to have a short break.

“He’s pulled up well but he will probably have a couple of weeks off now before we bring him back in and build him up slowly for his next prep. I think he will go through the grades next season and races that are a mile and quarter will really suit him,” explained Lock.

Viktor Vegas' return to work is sure to be looked forward to by the stable.

"He’s a really laid-back horse, who is everyone's friend and just the coolest ride," said Lock.
