24 Jun 2023The curtain has come down on Excelida’s racing career and our daughter of Exceed And Excel did us proud in her final appearance in the G1 Tatt’s Tiara over 1400 metres at Eagle Farm.
She was caught three wide in midfield and responded valiantly to the urgings of leading Victorian apprentice Celine Gaudray to finish seventh and less than two lengths off the winner.
Excelida has retired with six wins to her credit with her career highlight victory in the G2 Rose Of Kingston Stakes and posted multiple black type placings, including a gallant third in the G1 Empire Rose Stakes.
Our thanks go to the Hayes family at Lindsay Park for their handling of the mare throughout her career.
We initially purchased her for A$460,000 out of breeder Trelawney Stud’s draft at the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and with a rich pedigree she will be a valued addition to our broodmare band.
Excelida is the first foal of the Iffraaj mare Lady Sayyida, who is a half-sister to the multiple Group 1 winner, former New Zealand Horse of the Year and successful stallion Ocean Park.
Also the up-front family of the dual elite level winner Grunt, it is a pedigree page that also features the two-time Group 1 winner and champion sire O’Reilly.
