Carpool Karaoke was an expensive yearling purchase and showed an early return on that investment at Pakenham.

He made the perfect start to his career last evening with a commanding front-running performance to win over 1400 metres.

The Tavistock three-year-old is prepared by Anthony Freedman and the Cambridge Stud graduate was a $700,000 Karaka purchase by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock.

Carpool Karaoke is a son of Tricia’o, an O’Reilly mare who is a half-sister to the Gr.2 Tatt’s Winter Stakes winner La Sizeranne.

It is the high-profile family of the Group One winners and successful sires Lonhro and Grosvenor.

The Gr.1 Australian Derby winner Tavago and the Gr.1 NZ 2000 Guineas winner Catalyst also feature in a rich pedigree.

Cambridge Stud sold a half-brother to Carpool Karaoke by Exceed And Excel at Karaka earlier this year for $500,000.
