Taking on the older horses over 2600 metres, the John O’Shea-trained three-year-old settled in the back half of the field and looked to be under pressure 700 metres from home.
She showed commendable fighting qualities to respond to the vigorous urgings of rider Tyler Schiller and dived between runners in the straight to post a gallant victory.
It was the second win from seven starts for the Haunui Bloodstock and BF Bloodstock-bred Gorgeous Zara, who has also placed four times.
She was purchased at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale by part-owner Suman Hedge for A$200,000 and is out of the Savabeel mare Hi Gorgeous, who is a daughter of the G1 Easter Handicap winner Calveen.
