Filly Opens Tavistock's 2018/19 Australian Win Account

Tavistock filly Vintage Stock opened her sire's win account in Australia for 2018/19 at Perth on Wednesday.

The 3YO filly was on debut and could scarcely have been more impressive for trainer Alan Mathews, winning the 1200m Belmont contest by over four lengths.

“For a first race start to lead after 400m and then run away from them, it was a very impressive performance,” Matthews told Cambridge Stud today.

"It was her first start so she'll do a bit more racing and then we might look at some of the 3YO features here in the spring."

Vintage Stock was purchased by John Chalmers from Rich Hill Stud’s 2017 NZB Select Yearling draft for $20,000. From her one career start to date, she has already gone a significant way to recouping this expense for owners Lou Erceg, Kim Parker, Rob Houwen, Rae Mews and Lesley Baker.

The filly looks to be another of the good horses that John Chalmers has sent to Mathews to train, with the best of these to date being the Gr.1 Western Australian Derby and Gr.1 Perth Cup winner, Mirror Magic (Lord Ballina).

Bred by Karen & Kevin Fursdon and the recently deceased Shirley Vincent and her husband Murray, Vintage Stock is out of a winning sister to the multiple Gr.1 winning Volksraad filly, One Under.

This Tavistock/Volksraad cross has been best seen to date by the four-time Gr.1 winner Volkstok’n’barrell.
