The richly bred Arrowette posted an overdue breakthrough success at Ruakaka where our filly delivered a milestone moment for trainer Stephen Marsh.

The Zoustar three-year-old, placed in both of her all-weather starts since a break, credited the Cambridge horseman with the 1000th success of his career.

“I’ve thought about it quite a bit lately, it’s a lot of wins and it’s very exciting,” Marsh said.

We were delighted to be part of the occasion with Arrowette, who sat in behind the pace before angling into the clear at the top of the straight and finished off determinedly for rider Warren Kennedy.

“She had been very good in both of her previous runs and I had toyed with the idea of headgear last start,” Marsh said.

“I put the side winkers on and, back on the grass and up to a mile, I thought she would be a really good chance.

“I didn’t give Warren any instructions other than be in the first four or five, she’s a lovely filly.”

She had showed promise earlier in the season when fifth in the G3 Gold Trail Stakes and sixth in the G3 Barneswood Farm Stakes before a hiccup in her preparation.

Arrowette is a half-sister to the G3 Waikato Cup winner and Group 1 performer Mongolian Marshal with their dam the multiple winner and Listed placegetter Ardeche.

She is a half-sister to the Group winners Forever Loved and Zephyron and their dam Diamond Like was a talented mare who claimed the Listed Lightning Handicap and was runner-up in the G1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes.

From the famed Eight Carat family, Ardeche’s Dundeel filly sold to Raptors Thoroughbreds for $180,000 at this year’s New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sale and she is in foal to Almanzor.
