Fireglow overcame a horror gate in grand fashion at Timaru to deliver the fourth victory of his career.

The homebred son of Tavistock drew the outside stall over 1600 metres, but an aggressive ride from Joe Kamaruddin paved the way for a runaway success.

The Michael and Matthew Pitman-trained Fireglow was hunted out of the barrier to cross the field to lead and surged clear at the top of the straight.

He made light of his co-topweight of 59.5kg in the run home to enjoy a 2.8l margin on his closest chaser at the finish.

A $35,000 Karaka purchase for the Pitmans, Fireglow is a half-brother to Snapper whose six wins include success in the G3 Standish Handicap.
