First strike for Think French

First strike for Think French20 Aug 2022

A step back in distance brought about the desired result with Think French, who showed her versatility at Wangaratta where she broke through for her maiden victory.

The daughter of So You Think had finished fifth over a middle distance at Moe earlier this month before she was freshened and successfully stepped back to 1400 metres.

Think French settled midfield on the fence before rider Jack Hill urged her forward with 600 metres to run and the mare finished stoutly for a deserved win.

She is the first foal and first winner for the Fastnet Rock mare Shontee and was purchased out of our draft at the 2019 New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sale by Lenny Russo's Bluegrass Bloodstock for $60,000.

The dam is out of the multiple stakes winner Madame Pedrille, whose half-sister Diamond Drille won an edition of the G1 Queen of the Turf Stakes and, most notably, the family of the champion stallion I Am Invincible.

Shontee produced a daughter by Impending in 2021 before she visited Almanzor and we sold her Kermadec filly to Shailer Racing and Hughes Bloodstock at Karaka this year for $80,000.
