Tavistock's son Deepstrike has opened his autumn campaign in the best possible style with a first-up victory at Pakenham.

The 3-year-old resumed on Thursday evening following a five-month break to score over 1600 metres in the hands of Michael Dee.

The Cambridge Stud graduate is trained at Caulfield by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr.

Deepstrike, who races in the colours of prominent owner Rupert Legh, showed his potential during his first preparation. He placed in all three starts and was given a break after finishing fourth in the Listed Hill Smith Stakes.

The son of Tavistock was a $280,000 Karaka purchase for Price and is out of the Zabeel mare Obey. She has produced three winners, including the Group 3-placed Zabay.

Obey is a half-sister to the G2 Concorde Handicap winner Taimana and they are daughters of Abbaye. She is a half-sister to Group winners and sires Commands and Danewin and also the family of multiple Group 1 winner Verry Elleegant.
