A change of tactics paved the way for a return to winning form on the Kensington track at Randwick this afternoon for our farm graduate Come Along.
The son of Power was sent to the front by rider Josh Parr and they set a steady pace to the turn, enabling the six-year-old to have plenty in reserve for the run home.
The John Sargent-trained Come Along was clearly headed in the straight before rallying and he fought back gallantly for the sixth win of his career.
“The back-up did him good and was relaxed in the parade ring. Josh knows him well and we thought we would be aggressive and get him in the race,” Sargent said.
“He fought back well and it’s a good result for connections.”
Come Along was bought out of the Cambridge Stud draft at Karaka by DGR Thoroughbred Services for $230,000 and is out of the Montjeu mare Game Duchess, who has done a fine job at stud.
She has produced six winners including Exquisite Jewel and Dark Princess, the respective Group 3 winners of the Manawatu Classic and the Thompson Handicap.
Game Duchess, who produced an Almanzor colt last year before a return visit, is a half-sister to the G1 Vinery Stud Stakes winner Hyaam and yet another branch of the celebrated Eight Carat family.
