Gallant Crown has successfully turned his fortunes around in Hong Kong with an upset victory at Happy Valley.

The Cambridge Stud graduate had been below par at his previous start before the six-year-old returned to winning ways, the sixth of his career, at long odds for trainer Tony Millard and jockey Derek Leung.

Gallant Crown has proved to be an outstanding investment for his connections with earnings of more than $1.2 million after he was originally purchased at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale for $40,000.

By Hallowed Crown, he is a son of the Stravinsky mare Justagem and she is a half-sister to the G1 Captain Cook Stakes winner Penny Gem and the immediate family of the dual Group 3 winner Night’s Watch.

Justagem, who was successful three times up to 1600 metres, produced a filly by Darci Brahma last season and is now in foal to our exciting newcomer Sword Of State.
