Game Familia adds to winning record

Game Familia adds to winning record2 Apr 2022

Familia broke a lengthy winless streak when she finished resolutely to win the open handicap over 1200 metres at Avondale.

While our daughter of Makfi was last successful in November, 2020, her honesty can’t be questioned and has chalked up numerous subsequent minor placings, most notably thirds in the G2 Westbury Classic and Listed Newmarket Handicap.

“She does try really hard and we’ve had her in some very good races and she’s been a bit stiff a few times,” trainer Lance Noble said.

“She very, very small but she’s got a big heart and it was a thrill to see her win again.”

Familia was given a cosy run in the trail by Bridget Grylls before angling clear early in the run home and finished off determinedly for the fourth victory of her career.

“It was a well-deserved win for a very genuine mare and she’s also got a bit of black-type to her credit as well,” Noble said.

Familia is a daughter of the High Chaparral mare Enjay, who was successful on two occasions and is a half-sister to the G2 Shannon Handicap winner Rolling Pin, also third in the G1 Epsom Handicap.

We sold Enjay’s Almanzor filly to Roger James and Robert Wellwood for $240,000 at this year’s New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale while the mare visited King’s Legacy last season.
