Garden City in full bloom

Garden City turned her fortunes around at Wingatui where the promising filly posted the first winning strike of her fledgling career.

Our homebred daughter of Tavistock had endured a tough run when sixth at her Riccarton debut last month after she was caught four wide in the running, but had much better luck this time.

Rider Kavish Chowdhoory settled her outside of the leader and after challenging three wide into the straight, the two-year-old stuck gallantly to her task to open her account.

Garden City was purchased out of our Karaka draft last year for $20,000 and congratulations go to trainers Michael and Matthew Pitman and their ownership group on her maiden success.

The filly is the first winner for her dam Botanic, a daughter of Stravinsky who is a half-sister to South African stakes winner Diamond King and the family of the Group 3 winners Love Affair and Somepin Anypin.

Botanic has a yearling colt by Almanzor and produced a Ten Sovereigns filly last season and will visit Champion Two-year-old Sword of State in his first season.
