Fireglow continued his hot run of form at Riccarton when he produced another strong performance for trainers Michael and Matthew Pitman.

The Tavistock three-year-old, who was stakes placed last season in the Listed Champagne Stakes, had won on the course over 1200 metres at his previous appearance and repeated the dose over an extra 200 metres.

Fireglow settled three back on the rail and rider Wiremu Pinn was able to angle into clear air at the top of the straight and they rounded off powerfully.

He was purchased out of our 2020 draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale by Pitman senior for $35,000.

Fireglow is a son of Onlyarose, a four-time winner and stakes performer, whose first foal Snapper was Group-placed here before relocating to Michael Moroney’s Flemington yard and has since won four races.

Onlyarose, who has a yearling by Almanzor, is a half-sister to the G2 Concorde Handicap winner Taimana and their dam Abbaye is a half-sister to Group winners and sires Commands and Danewin.
