Gordon Lord Byron's stunning victory in last Saturday's A$1m George Ryder Stakes-Gr.1 (1500m) prompted this email from Sir Patrick Hogan's cousin, John yesterday...
Patrick,
Tom Hogan really pulled off a nice one in Sydney and he has truly established himself in the tradition of the legendary Vincent O'Brien with a win in Cheltenham over the sticks and a Group One win in England and now one in Australia.
But he has an exceptionally-good one in Gordon Lord Byron - bought for 2000 Euro as a foal - broke its pelvis on its first race - nursed back by Hogan - and look at it now. 18/1 in Australia and we didn't know until 5 o'clock on Saturday morning.
I'm sure the Aussie must be thinking; "not another bloody Hogan"
