Farm graduate Gallant Crown produced a boil-over victory on the opening day of the Hong Kong season when he claimed the closing event on the Sha Tin card.

Despite ending his last preparation in June with a solid effort for third, the Tony Millard and Karis Teetan-ridden six-year-old scored over 1400 metres at odds of 52-1 to post the fifth win of his career.

Bred by Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan and sold by Cambridge Stud, Gallant Crown was a $40,000 Karaka yearling purchase by Kiltannon Stables and the son of Hallowed Crown was subsequently a trial winner at Ruakaka for Mark Forbes before his sale to Hong Kong’s Equity Syndicate.

Gallant Crown is out of the winning Stravinsky mare Justagem, who produced a filly last season by Almanzor before she was served by Darci Brahma.

Justagem is a half-sister to the G1 Captain Cook Stakes winner Penny Gem and to Glory Run, dam of the dual Group 3 winner and Group 1 placegetter Night’s Watch.
