Group 1 Awards Await Cambridge Stud

Cambridge Stud will be the recipient of two Group 1 awards at the Waikato breeders' annual Group 1 awards dinner to be held at the Kingsgate Hotel in Hamilton on Friday,  July 25.

Cambridge Stud was involved in breeding two Group 1 winners during the 2007/08 racing season - both in Australia.

Maldivian (Zabeel x Shynzi) was an outstanding winner of the Group 1 Yalumba Stakes at Caulfield last spring defeating star racemare Miss Finland into the bargain.

Mark Kavanagh-trained Maldivian was then favourite for the Caulfield Cup but unfortunately was late scratched at the barrier.

Sarrera (Quest For Fame x Zamsong) was successful twice at Gr. 1 level in the AJC Queen Elizabeth Sakes at Royal Randwick and in the BTC Doomben Cup in Brisbane. Sir Patrick and Justine Lady Hogan bred Sarrera in partnership with Werai Park Stud and Letmar Investments. Trained by Mike Moroney, Sarrera really stamped herself as one of the best-performed mares around in Australasia this season.

Sir Patrick Hogan said receiving the Group 1 awards was always a very special occasion.

"Cambridge Stud has been lucky over the years to receive a number of these goblets from the Waikato Group 1 awards dinner and they still mean a lot to Justine and I. It is a real honour to receive them in front of your fellow breeders," said Sir Patrick.
