Fireglow is held in the highest of regard by his connections and it was easy to see why when the Classic-bound son of Tavistock returned in a blaze of glory this afternoon at Riccarton.

Our farm graduate placed twice last season, including a third in the Listed Champagne Stakes, and he kicked off his three-year-old season in fine style with victory over 1200 metres.

The Michael and Matthew Pitman-trained Fireglow was caught three wide near the pace before he hit the front 200 metres from home and was untroubled to hold his rivals at bay.

All roads lead to the G1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas for the gelding, who we sold to Michael at last year’s New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale for $35,000.

He is out of the One Cool Cat mare Onlyarose, who was successful on four occasions and was stakes placed, and she is a half-sister to the G2 Concorde Stakes winner Taimana.

We sold Fireglow’s half-brother by Almanzor to Graeme Rogerson at Karaka this year for $300,000 and Onlyarose had an Almanzor colt in 2020 before missing to Deep Field.
