The first Southern Hemisphere-bred representatives of our shuttle stallion Hello Youmzain to be offered at auction made their debuts at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Weanling Sale.

From a small sample size, the star of the show was a colt by the G1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes and G1 Haydock Sprint Cup winner presented as Lot 23 by Brighthill Farm.

Bred by Justine and Dave Sclater’s Kirkwall Thoroughbreds, he was knocked down to Dungowan Bloodstock and Waikato Bloodstock for $60,000.

“I like to give the new sires a try because it’s an unknown and it makes the game a bit more interesting,” said the Hong Kong-based Nancy Wong, of Dungowan.

The youngster is out of the Lonhro mare Claudine, who is a half-sister to the G2 Tulloch Stakes winner Gallatin with dual Japanese Group 1 winner Fine Needle on the pedigree page.

Claudine’s two foals to race have been successful and she is again in foal to Hello Youmzain.
