Hot on the heels of Glengallon in Singapore, Highly Recommended has given rise to even more excitement closer to home, this time courtesy of a winning raceday double at Timaru.

Today’s Timaru stand outs came in the form of the Ross Beckett-trained maiden winner Take Me There and She’s Fun, who broke through for a deserved win after a string of seconds for trainer Sophie Price.

Take Me There left rivals to it at the 250m mark event, powering home for Jacob Lowry to score in the 1000m contest by 4.5 lengths.

“He’ll now head to the last day at Riccarton over 1400m,” enthused trainer Ross Beckett.

“This guy is a lovely natured horse. I’ve broken in quite a few of Highly Recommended’s progeny and are a fan.”

Take Me There is bred by Berkley Stud’s Alan Jones and Edwina Morris, and is out of the stakes producing Waikiki Star mare Miami.

Interestingly this family has already shown an affinity with Highly Recommended, as the winner’s half-sister, When the Cats Away (Felix the Cat), is the dam of his Gr.1 performed filly Joyfilly.

In contrast to Take Me There, Highly Recommended’s second winner She’s Fun delivered her win in pillar-to-post fashion, fighting to the line after making all for apprentice Tina Comignaghi to score by a nose.

She’s Fun is bred and raced by Michael Crooks and is out of Morphun (The Jogger), who is a half-sister to the Gr.1 Wellington Cup winner Ed.

“She’s pretty tough. She was knocked over a couple of times in her earlier races, but she’s just so tough on raceday that she’s been able to come out and place second in her three subsequent races and get the win today. We’ll see how she comes through today’s race and then we’ll map out where she heads next,” said trainer Sophie Price.
