A perfect front-running ride from Craig Williams paved the way for Holster to comfortably add another notch to his belt over 1800 metres on the Hillside course at Sandown.
Williams took the Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan bred gelding straight to the head of affairs and he reveled in his role before increasing the tempo 700 metres from home.
Holster was clear at the top of the straight and the son of Tavistock from the legendary Eight Carat family held a strong gallop to score by 2.25l and the fourth victory of his career.
He had put the writing on the wall at his previous outing when he made ground from the rear of the field over 2000 metres to finish a solid third.
“It was a really good run at Mornington off the back of the Darwin carnival where he got a foot abscess,” co-trainer Ash Yargi said.
“We knew coming back from 2000 to 1800 metres that he was rock hard fit and with a great ride it was good effort to win with 61kg.”
Holster is a son of the G2 Waikato Gold Cup winner and Group 1 performer Lovetrista, who is a three-quarter sister to the G1 Spring Champion Stakes winner Viking Ruler and the G2 AAMI Vase winner Kempinsky.
Lovetrista's yearling colt by Embellish sold for $65,000 to Wallace Thoroughbreds at Karaka this year and she will return to our young son of Savabeel again this spring.
