Holster wins shoot-out at Kyneton3 Nov 2021

The regally bred Holster showed he was no one trick pony when he produced a commanding front-running display at Kyneton this afternoon to add another notch on his belt.

The Cambridge Stud graduate was taken straight to the lead by rider Michael Dee and the son of Tavistock revelled in his new role to stay on strongly at the end of 1820 metres to score by two lengths.

“He has been a work in progress and we’ve been riding him back, but in the small field we were always going to go forward and he was strong at the line,” co-trainer Ash Yargi said.

“It was rewarding to see him finish off because he still does a bit wrong, but we’ve had faith in him.”

The lightly raced five-year-old has now won three races and has only finished out of the top four on two occasions.

Holster is out of the Rock of Gibraltar mare Lovetrista, a quality mare who won the G2 Waikato Gold Cup, the Listed Soliloquy Stakes, the Listed James and Annie Sarten Memorial and finished third in the G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas.

Lovetrista, who is a daughter of the dual Group 1 winner Tristalove and another member of the legendary Eight Carat family, has a yearling colt by Embellish and is back in foal to our young sire this year.

Holster was originally purchased by Team Hawkes for AU$240,000 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale where he was offered by Bhima Thoroughbreds on behalf of Cambridge Stud.

He was subsequently purchased by current trainers Amy and Ash Yargi for AU$70,000 via the 2020 Inglis Digital September Sale.
