Our shuttle stallion Almanzor has broken fresh ground by siring his first winner in Hong Kong with his first runner.

His high-priced son Forerunner made the perfect start to his racing career with a strong debut win over 1400 metres at Sha Tin in the hands of Hugh Bowman for trainer Benno Yung.

“I think there’s a large future for him. I think he’ll go further in time. He’s still not concentrating and he’s got a lot to learn, but it was a very good experience for him,” Yung said.

Bowman was also impressed by the three-year-old: “He gave me a good feel, he was very straight-forward. He probably lacked a bit of confidence and a bit of physical strength, so there’s still good improvement with him. He’s certainly got an engine.”

Bred in France, Forerunner was originally purchased at the Arqana Deauville Select Yearling Sale for $470,000 and then realised $610,000 at the Hong Kong Jockey Club International Sale.

He is a half-brother to the three-time North American Group 1 winner Miss Temple City, whose sister Pricedtoperfection was also a stakes winner, with their dam the American-bred Artax mare Glittering Tax.
