Victorian trainer Liam Howley has added his name to the lengthy list of Almanzor admirers with the purchase of a colt at Inglis’ Classic Sale.

He went to AU$360,000 yesterday with agents Andrew Williams and Bevan Smith to secure the youngster offered by Wentwood Grange.

“We knew what our figure was and knew what he was worth,” Howley said.

“Thanfully, we got him. He’s got a beautiful walk and carries himself perfectly.

“It’s tough at these sales and you can have 20 or so on your list and the vet knocks them back, but he was perfect in all aspects.

“It was great to get him and I can’t wait to get going with the colt.”

The colt is out of the winning Stryker mare She Is Stryking, who was also placed in the Listed Murdoch Newell Stakes.

Still resident at Wentwood Grange, the mare currently has an Almanzor colt at foot.

Howley was effusive in his praise of the first crop of the Cambridge Stud shuttle stallion.

“As types, you can’t fault them – they are pure athletes. As soon as they walk out of the box you are starstruck,” he said.

“Every one that goes through the ring this week are good and at the Gold Coast they were outstanding.

“They made their money there and a lot more than what we could pay.”
