Well-related English mare Gravitelle is proving to be an astute piece of business for Cambridge Stud.
Purchased primarily for a breeding career, she is doing the business on the racetrack under trainer Lance Noble’s guidance.
The four-year-old broke her maiden at Rotorua and followed up in style at Matamata on Friday.
Gravitelle stepped up to 2000 metres for the first time and was a dominant winner under usual rider Leith Innes.
She is a daughter of influential stallion Pivotal and the winning Nayef mare Quenelle.
The dam is a half-sister to the stakes winner Viva Vettori and there are some heavy hitters in behind in this pedigree.
They include the European Horse of the Year and multiple Group One winner Ouija Board.
She’s the mother of Australia, a three-time Group One winner and sire of two further broodmare purchases for the farm.
During the Tattersalls December Sale they purchased Semillon and Elisheba.
They were secure on Cambridge Stud’s behalf by Queensland-based bloodstock agent John Chalmers.
He also did the bidding on Gravitelle, a $49,500 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale purchase.
