Mother-to-be Under My Spell is a potent force when produced in a fresh condition and she underlined that point again at Pakenham this afternoon.

Our daughter of Pierro came from back in the field over 1400 metres to post her fourth career success and now has a brace of wins and two placings from five first-up appearances from Nigel Blackiston’s stable.

“She’s been covered and is in foal so hopefully we can take her through to March, that’s the cut off point, and I’d like to thank Cambridge Stud and Brendan and Jo Lindsay, who are big supporters of the stable.

“She’ll go through her grades and today was the perfect race for her, I thought she was the best horse in the field. She has been racing well and we’ll take small steps and see how far we get.”

Under My Spell, who was served at Darley by Shamardal’s multiple Group 1-winning son Earthlight, is a half-sister to four winners with their dam the Hussonet mare Illusionary.

She was successful twice and is a half-sister to the Group 2 winners Chase The Rainbow and Ms Funovits, who are out of the G2 Matamata Breeders’ Stakes winner Lodore Magic.

A AU$330,000 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale purchase, Under My Spell settled back in the field and one off the fence and peeled wide before the turn to produce a powerful finishing run in the straight.

“She’s always showed a lot of ability and can pick up a nice race. She came back fresh off a soft trial and the blinkers were off,” winning rider Michael Dee said. “She’s a genuine racehorse and was strong through the line.”
