La Tardigrada showed the benefit of a first-up outing with victory at long odds at Te Aroha this afternoon.

The Cambridge Stud-bred and raced filly also appreciated a better surface to open her account over 1200 metres.

Trained by Lance Noble and ridden by Sam Collett, La Tardigrada is the first foal to race for her dam Phenetic.

Phenetic was a winner in France before she was purchased by agent John Foote as a broodmare prospect and relocated to the Southern Hemisphere.

She is a half-sister to G3 Prix de Fontainbleu winner Glasweigan, who also won in Hong Kong as Beauty Lead.

A half-brother to La Tardigrada by Maurice sold at Karaka earlier this year for $180,000 to Cypress Point Farms and Phenetic foaled a filly by Almanzor this spring.
