It was a huge thrill to see Kahma Lass win on Australian soil with a Listed victory at Caulfield in the Weekend Hussler Stakes.

Trained by Jamie Richards and so capably handled by jockey Brett Prebble, our daughter of Darci Brahma settled back on the fence before she was angled off the rail before the turn and came with a sustained finish to score in style.

It was her third career success and having claimed top honours in last season’s G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas is a particularly valuable mare.

Kahma Lass was making her second appearance of the spring today having finished out of the money when resuming in the G3 How Now S., but an effort that Prebble saw plenty of merit in.

“She had a big weight and was a bit anchored with the 59kg. I knew she would improve with the run and her work on Tuesday morning was really good,” he said.

“I reckon there’s a good race in her under handicap conditions. She’s still very new, but she’s got a lot of ability.”

Kahma Lass was purchased by Te Akau’s David Ellis on our behalf at Karaka for $290,000 from the Curraghmore draft. She was bred by Greg Tomlinson's Nearco Stud and is a sister to the Singapore black-type winner Distinctive Darci as well as a half-sister to the fellow black-type winners Kuro and Southern Lad.
