The well-related Karuta King overcame an awkward barrier to post an early breakthrough against older opposition at Gosford over 1200 metres.

At his fourth appearance for Peter and Paul Snowden, our homebred two-year-old was quickly into stride from an outside barrier and travelled comfortably in fifth spot on the outer for rider Robbie Dolan.

They improved three wide to take control before the home bend and the Sebring youngster stayed on strongly to deliver a maiden success in a style to suggest he is capable of making his mark in stronger company.

Karuta King was part of the 2021 draft we put through the Bhima Thoroughbreds consignment at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and purchased by Triple Crown Syndications, who went to A$60,000 to secure the chestnut.

He is the first foal of the unraced Big Brown mare Infliction, whose Almanzor filly realised $180,000 to the bid of Michael Otto Bloodstock at Karaka earlier this year. She foaled a colt by Capitalist last season before visiting Hello Youmzain.

We bought Infliction for A$200,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale and she is a daughter of the G3 Red Anchor Stakes winner and G1 William Reid Stakes runner-up Karuta Queen and also the dam of the black-type winner Eawase.
